How to make the Fall Fairy Costume DIY Skirts

This fall fairy costume looks so easy to make, and I love all her pictures of her girls in the fall foliage!

I made the tulle skirts the easy way – just tie to a ribbon. I mixed colors of tulle to give the skirt more depth and interest

Step 1 – Make the waist to the Fall Fairy Skirt

Measure around the waist of the person you’re making it for. if just using ribbon, make the ribbon 3 to 4 feet longer to be able to tie a nice bow. Another option is to use a stretchy headband (like this one) around the waist (if they are little enough – like a baby or small toddler). Or you can use elastic for the waist and sew ribbon ends onto it so it can be ties on.

Quick Tip

Sew ribbon ends to elastic to make the skirt more comfortable to wear.

Step 2 – Tie the fabric strips to the skirt

Cut the strips of tulle to the length you desire – shorter for a tutu look and longer for a skirt/ ballgown look.

pull the loop through to make the fall fairy skirt.

Then tie on the strips by folding each strip in half. Taking the folded end, wrap it around the ribbon/elastic/headband so it forms a loop.

Then pull the tulle through the loop to tie it off, repeat over and over until the skirt is the look you want.

Mix in different colors for interest. The more tulle that is added the more full the skirt will be. When finished simply tie around the waist!

Wings for the fairy costume

The wings I got bought for a whopping buck at the dollar store!
